Huge practice score discrepancy

by CaitlinC640 Wed Aug 06, 2014 12:56 am

Hi,

Looking for any thoughts or opinions on this. I'm writing in just over 24H and have taken the following tests:

MGMAT CAT 1 (early May, before studying) = 550 (38Q, 28V)
MGMAT CAT 2 (early July, after studying quant) = 580 (40Q, 31V)
MGMAT Cat 3 (end of July, after studying verbal) = 650 (42Q, 37V)
MGMAT Cat 4 (Aug 2) = 630 (37Q, 38V)
MGMAT CAT 5 (Aug 3) = 630 (40Q, 36V)
MGMAT CAT 6 (Aug 4) = 640 (42Q, 36V)
GMAT Prep1 (Aug 4) = 650 (44Q, 36V)
and then..... my final practice test:
GMAT Prep 2 (Aug 5) = 720 (47Q, 41V)

WTF? This is much closer to my target score (700+) and I've been disappointed and surprised to be scoring in the low-mid 600's so consistently.

Do you think it is possible for me to score in this range on test day?! Now that I know I'm capable, the thought of scoring in the 600's is depressing.

Side note: I realize it's not ideal to take that many CAT's so close together (especially not two in one day) and so close to my test date, but due to my schedule, I didn't really have a choice and wanted the practice. If nothing else, they're good questions to work through.

I would say, don't let the MGMAT tests get to
you. They are much more difficult than the actual exam.

Having said that, I do hope you have thoroughly reviewed the solutions to the questions you got wrong.

On the test day, try to manage your time well and focus on the question on the screen. Do not worry about the last question you did, or the next one you will do. Take the optional breaks. Your eyes need some rest with all that intense staring at the screen.
Most importantly, stay calm. No one ever gets all correct answers :)

Good Luck!
