How to improve on Sentence Correction ?

by DhanyaM627 Sun Feb 08, 2015 12:14 am

Hi,
I took GMAT yesterday and scored 660 - Quant - 49 Verbal - 31. I want to improve my score to 700 range. I was taking a lot of time (more than 2 min) to do SC questions which in turn affected CR's and RC's , because I was running out of time for them. Accuaracy is also low.

I heard SC is one section in which one can make significant improvements. I have Manhattan- SC and Official guide 2013 with me. Please suggest ways to improve my SC and hence over all score . I will be re-taking GMAT in another 3 to 4 months.

Thanks!
Dhanya

You may want to order the Enhanced Score Report (it will become available to you when you get your official score report, typically about 5 to 10 business days after you take the real test). That will show you your relative performance on SC vs. CR vs. RC so that you can see which type is the most likely to give you the best room for improvement.

Next, it's important to have an efficient process for working through an SC question. What process have you been using? Here's a look at ours:

The first chapter of our 6th edition SC strategy guide also discusses this process and offers strategies for how to get better / more efficient.

There are likely also content areas on which you can improve. Have you taken any of our practice CATs? If so, use this to analyze your results:

Then come back and tell me what your specific weaknesses are on SC (and any other areas that you want to discuss), and we can talk specifics.
