How to get explanation on OG questions' answer

by m_maskara Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:41 pm

Hello,

I have registered for sept end to dec '09 online course. I already received all the course materials and started working with sentence correction MGMAT guide. Sometime I am unable to understand the reason behind the correct answer. Since OG questions are prohibitted from listing in forums, how could I understand the reason behind the correct answer.

Thanks,

Mahesh

You can do one of a few things. The old archives of OG problems are still listed from before the copyright owners prevented OG problems from being discussed. So you can search (pick a string of a few words in the problem, including at least one semi-unusual word) and see whether the question was previously discussed and, if so, maybe that will answer whatever question you have.

Once the course starts, you can also ask your teacher before or after class. You'll also be able to sign up for 30 minutes of office hours (free) each week and you can ask the teacher then. So just save those up for when the class starts.

Also, don't do them all now! Save some to do after you've taken the relevent classes / learned the relevent lessons from your instructors!

Thanks for providing me the answeres. I have another question based on your input. While I waiting for my course to start, what would be the right approach.

1. Should I solve only the MGMAT guide questions and leave the OG and review guides for as part of class.
or
2. Should I solve MGMAT and 12th edition OG and leave the review guides for later?
or
3. Should I solve MGMAT and Review guide and leave the 12th edition OG for later?

4. Should I solve CAT and/or Question banks or wait for classes to start ?

Thanks

I wouldn't do many (if any) OG questions before the course starts. Some people do like to read through the strategy guides and do some of the in-action problems (printed in each chapter) before the class starts, especially if it has been a while since you've done this type of math.

There are also drills and materials for more foundational math materials, in case you want some additional practice to get up to speed BEFORE you start using the red strategy guides. Look under "Class Resources" in your Student Center for "Foundations of Math." Actually, I'd start here and then, if you feel fine with this stuff, you can move up to the red strategy guides.

Take one CAT exam sometime in the couple of weeks before class starts - that's it. And don't do the online question bank stuff before class starts.
