There are 37 Quant questions and 41 Verbal questions.
The scoring scale runs from 0 to 51 (technically to 60, but they don't actually assign scores above 51). When you see people talking about getting a 44 Quant, they mean they earned a score of 44 (which is not - exactly - tied to how many questions you get right, strangely enough).
It would be very beneficial to learn more about how the scoring works on the GMAT. I'd recommend reading the Scoring section of our free e-book The GMAT Uncovered (it's already in your student center account). One section of it gets pretty technical - you can skip that part unless you're really interested. (You'll know it when you see it.) :)
