HEARD THAT/HEARD OF SC

by poonam.khatri Mon Jun 13, 2011 5:45 pm

Hello,

In the Manhattan Sentence Correction guide, it is claimed that "Heard that" is correct and "Heard of" is wrong. What about the term "Heard about".

For example:

I heard that John scored a 790 on the GMAT
I heard of John scoring a 790 on the GMAT
I heard about John scoring a 790 on the GMAT
I heard about John's score yesterday

Which one(s) of the above are wrong?

Also, Is "Heard of" unidiomatic in all instances?

Thanks

Yes, I would focus on "heard that". "Heard about" has the same function, but "heard that" is preferred.
