Guidance Needed regarding Selecting School and Application

by saurabh15apr Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:18 pm

Hi, I gave GMAT last week and got a score of 720(51/35).
I wish to apply for the session starting next year july-aug. Given a choice, i would like to pursue the MBA in Operations Management. That is why i have thought of few colleges, like Tepper, Wharton, Purdue, Anderson, to apply to. Further help is required
Any help regarding where should i apply and the application essays would be greatly appreciated.
If you have access to some of the sample application essays or you know someone who has access to the essays, it would be realy helpful if you could forward them to me for reference.

Background: 10th: 93%, 12th: 93%, College: 7.92/10
B.Tech Graduate in Production and Industrial Engineering.
Working in IT domain for the past 27 months.

Hi there,

Congrats on your strong GMAT score. It sounds like you have an appropriate list for operations management, keeping in mind that Wharton will be a 'reach' school.

You are part of a large pool of Indian IT/engineering applicants, so it's important that you do all that you can to differentiate yourself from them, as well as showcase non-technical skills (since your technical skills are already evident).

In terms of essays, you are right to focus on them since they can make such an impact. There are many b-school admissions guides and books available with suggestions and sample essays. We have guides on general essay tips that are very useful, as well as "Insiders" school guides for programs like Wharton, see http://www.mbamission.com/guides.php for links to purchase. We offer articles on essay analysis for schools, for example, Wharton for this year: http://www.mbamission.com/blog/2013/07/ ... 2013-2014/.

Wishing you the best, keep us posted!
