Hi Ron, I am having trouble understanding the meaning of this sentence, and I am really hope you can help me out. OA: "Regardless of their form or function, all aerodynamically enhanced, curved objects made for throwing have been called boomerangs by non-Australians even since 1788, when Europeans saw Dharug-speaking men tossing “bumariny” in the area later known as Sydney." The part I did not understand is "Regardless of their form or function...curved objects have been called...". I don't understand why their form or function would have anything to do with what they have been called? I feel this is like saying "Regardless of their form or function, four wheeled vehicles are called cars." What exactly am I missing here?

ok, sure, it's sort of like saying that. imagine we used the word "car" for ANY four-wheeled contraption—not only actual cars, but also skateboards, barbecue grills, suitcases, trucks, wagons, lawn mowers, etc. ... literally, ANYTHING with four wheels.
it's kind of like that.
