GMAT vs. GRE

by mobenny Wed Jun 24, 2009 3:42 pm

I have been studying for the GMAT for some time now, but I haven't recieved the results I desire. I know that a lot of B-Schools accept the GRE, which is an easier test. Do the top schools prefer that you take the GMAT? How high do you need to score on the GRE to compete for admission to the top B-Schools? And, why do most people take the GMAT over the GRE?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Moses,

Some schools do accept the GRE and for those schools, either test is acceptable for admission. (You may have seen that HBS announced they would begin to accept the GRE this year). I would say that most people take the GMAT over the GRE for business school because most schools still require it. So if a candidate is applying to several schools, he/she only has to take one test.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Erin
