GMAT vs GRE

by AB13 Wed Jul 02, 2014 9:43 am

Hello. I have taken both the GMAT and GRE and would like to know if I should submit one or both scores on my applications. On the GMAT, I scored 670 (41Q, 41V, 3IR). On the GRE, I scored 163 in Verbal, 159 in Quant, and 4.5 in Writing. Obviously, both of these scores are heavily skewed towards Verbal, but I'm hoping that my undergraduate background in Economics and Finance, as well as my work experience in banking, can show that I don't lack quantitative skills. I would like to apply to schools such as Fuqua, Tuck, Haas, Ross, etc. Can you please advise? Thank you!

My best advice for you is to talk to an admissions consultant. :) We're experts on the tests themselves (not the broader admissions process). I'd recommend talking to MBA Mission.

Your Verbal percentile rankings are similar on the two tests. Your GMAT Q score of 41 is the 49th percentile. Your GRE Q score of 159 is the 74th percentile, so on that comparison, the GRE wins - that's a substantial difference.

You'll also need to make sure that the schools to which you want to apply do accept the GRE. (Most business schools do now, but some don't.)

Good luck and let us know what you hear from the admissions consultants!
