Gmat - Third Attempt

by mustafa_k86 Mon Apr 25, 2011 3:30 pm

Hello everyone,

Im planning on taking the gmat for the third time. In my first attempt i got a 530. While preparing for the second attempt i referred to MGMAT books and saw a significant jump of 80 points. Even though I was confident about scoring above 650, I ended up with a 610. However I feel I have more potential and I can definitely make it to the 700 mark. One major factor that contributed to my low score was my health on the day of the exam.
So given my situation I would like to know :-
1) if going for a third attempt is a good idea or not?
2) What kind of B-schools should I aim for with my current score and the profile described below.

Work exp - 2.5 years (Business Development team. IT industry)
Area of interest - Marketing

I would also appreciate if someone can suggest me ways and study material to improve my accuracy in CR.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mustafa,

Thanks for writing in. GMAT advice is really the focus of the Manhattan GMAT folks, so you may want to post on their boards as well. My expertise is in the MBA application process itself.

1) A third attempt, if you do feel another jump in score is within reach, can only help you. Most schools only look at your highest score, and a 700 will open up a world of options that will be tough with a 610.

2) With your current profile, I would look in the top-40-50 range. But it largely depends on what your plans are for using the MBA and how good a story you can tell.

Best of luck,
