hi -

it seems that there are two problems, and i don't know which is the greater one:
(1) you don't have the time;
(2) you don't have the energy / you're drowsy when you settle in to study.

if (1) is the problem, then you just have to prioritize. it's truly a rare individual who simply CAN'T set aside an hour a day.
think, for instance, whether you'd have an hour a day to perform exercises that would, say, save your arms and legs from falling off. yes, i know this is an extreme example, but you would definitely get that time from somewhere. you just would. because arms and legs are nice things to have.
wherever you'd get the time to perform these hypothetical exercises, get it, and use it to study.

if (2) is the problem, then you should try one of the following:

* try to change your sleeping hours to earlier or later, if possible. most people are naturally geared to sleep at certain hours of the day, and feel HORRIBLE if they're forced to sleep at other hours.
i, for instance, sleep best between 6am and noon, and can't function effectively at all if i have to wake up before 9am. this is so important to me that i've structured my entire career around it.
while you maybe shouldn't make such drastic changes, you should still do the following: the next time you feel REALLY ALERT, write down the EXACT times you went to sleep and got up. then try to replicate that schedule whenever it's feasible to do so.

* experiment with caffeine, in different doses at different times of day. keep a caffeine journal, in which you write down the dosage, the time, and the way you feel (on a subjective scale of, say, 0-10).
if caffeine doesn't do the trick, or if you're already a ten-cup-a-day coffee drinker, then try synephrine or ma huang.

* WORK OUT.
go to the gym and exercise.
if you are sleepy, then exercise is THE BEST possible remedy.
yes, i understand that it's almost impossible to motivate yourself to go to the gym when you're sleepy, but, believe me, you will feel better almost instantly as soon as your workout (whatever that may be) starts.
not to mention that working out is good for your heart and your soul.

i feel your pain; i spent many, many years in your exact situation.
good luck.
