GMAT Retake - which scores are considered...?

by sd Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:47 pm

Hi,

I took GMAT today and got a disappointing 700. These are the schools that I opted to for my score to be reported -

Haas
Kellogg
Booth
Duke
Stanford

Let's say I take the GMAT again after 31 days, and god forbid, but if I score below 700. Let's say though that next time, I chose totally different schools (schools that I would never consider applying to and that I think are not anywhere within top 20). Will my below 700 score be sent to both the first set of 5 schools and second set of 5 schools? Or will the scores be reported only to the second set of not-so good schools?

Hi -

First of all, what were your Q/V percentiles? A 700 with 80th percentile on Q/V is the benchmark for success so your score may not be as disappointing as you think.

As it relates to the score reports, best to clarify this with GMAC, but it is my understanding that when a score report goes to a school, it lists all tests taken in the past 5 years. The school will consider your best score.

I hope this helps.

My percentiles were (Q49, V36) with an overall of 90 percentile.

Retaking the test is up to you of course and depends on your time constraints, etc. With that said, a 700 with 80th percentiles in Q/V is the benchmark for success and you are pretty darn close to that so you may decide a better use of your time will be to work on the other parts of your application.

Best,
Erin
