GMAT PREP vs. The Real Thing

by Guest Wed Jul 02, 2008 11:09 pm

I took the GMAT Prep today and got a 710. woohoo. I thought the math section was relatively fair, but the verbal section completely rocked me. There seemed to be a lot of every type of problem where every answer looked right. Are questions on the real GMAT verbal section clearer/easier?

It is hard to believe that this question is coming from someone, who just scored 710. I guess the questions were really easy this year!

Wohoo!

An obnoxious response like that from a person who put a comma after the word "someone" is very believable.

Hmm. I know the poster who normally uses the tag Gmat Delight is not a native English speaker, so I'll give him/her the benefit of the doubt. But, Gmat Delight, please know that the wording of your post can be read as offensive - it sounds like you are saying the guest poster is not very smart or something like that. Please watch the language in the future.

Re: the initial question, perception of difficulty is extremely variable, actually. We tend to remember the things that give us trouble, and if you happen to get a few more questions that are types you don't like, you'll think that test is a lot harder, even if the "objective" difficulty level is the same as for another test on which you happen to get more questions that are in your areas of strength. That might be why you had the feeling you did as you took the test. (Not that it mattered, with that score!) :)

GMATPrep questions are real past test questions, so they are not substantively different that the questions that are currently "live" (being used on the real test).

I guessed that you weren't trying to be offensive - just a combination of non-native language stuff and the fact that we're typing, so things like tone of voice and expression don't come across! It's okay. :)
