Gmat 740 AWA 4

by joyroy_23 Thu Sep 10, 2009 2:47 pm

I have scored 740 on GMAT (Verbal 38 and Quant 51). But my AWA is 4. Should I retake the exam to improve my AWA? Or should I concentrate on my admission essays and try to make up my AWA over there. Please note that I want to apply to top 20 b-schools across the world. Please suggest.

Hi, thanks for your inquiry. Some of my answer depends on what percentage your verbal score was. If it was strong, (maybe above 75%), and your essays are well written, I don't think you have to worry about the AWA score. If your verbal GMAT is low and the AWA is where it is, there may be more of a concern. The other issue to consider is also around the essays - if your scores are low and the essays are extremely well-written, that may raise a red flag for the admissions office. I know this was a vague answer but some clarity would come from knowing the V%.

With that verbal score I wouldn't worry about the AWA. Just focus on doing the best job on the application overall that you can!

Best of luck,
