GMAT 7 Sep, scoring woes! Need 700+, getting 630ish

by anujg88 Sun Sep 01, 2013 7:58 am

I have my GMAT on 7th September and have been preparing for more than 5 weeks now and with one week to go I have been consistently scoring less than my expectation of 700+
When I gave my first test way back in first week of June, 2013 with no preparation, I had scored 630 on GMATPrep#1 and was hopeful that I could cross the 700 barrier by August end.
Now after 5 MGMAT tests and 100+ hours of studies, my latest MGMAT scores are

MGMAT#5 600 (Q-43, V-31) Sep 1
MGMAT#4 650 (Q-44, V-35) Aug 31
MGMAT#3 620 (Q-45, V-31) Aug 24
MGMAT#2 580 (Q-43, V-28) Aug 17
MGMAT#1 580 (Q-40, V-31) July 27
GMATPrep#1 620 (Q-45, V-31) Jun 6

I have already completed OG Quant; OG Verbal is 75% done.
Please suggest if there is any hope for me to achieve anything close to 700, with my exam slated on 7th, only 6 days away!!

Thanks & Regards,
Anuj

Hi, I'm sorry we're only getting to this one day after your test - as you've just learned, the forums are not the best place to go for last-minute help (especially not this time of year - we get too much traffic).

My response would have been, unfortunately, that I don't have any strategies for improving 50-100 points in 6 days. For the most part, what you're scoring about 1-2 weeks before the test is about what you should expect on the real test.

Did you end up taking the test? Or did you end up postponing? Let me know.

Next, tell me what materials you have used so far.

I'd also like to get some more detailed data on your strengths and weaknesses in order to advise you. Use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us the results of your analysis and what you think you should do based on that analysis. We'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)

I would also recommend that you read these 2 articles *before* you do your analysis:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... -the-gmat/

Think about whether the way you have been studying follows what those two articles say, and what you might need to change about your approach as a result.
