Hi,

I am Nishanth. I gave my gmat last year and scored a 680. I will give it again.

In the meanwhile I would like to get my profile evaluated. My profile details are as follows:

Gmat - 680, AWA:6, IR: 7

IT company- Joined as an engineer. Now a senior engineer.3 years exp.

I aspire to bring a change into the society. So, I will set up a school in the future.I prepared my profile accordingly.

Worked with 2 NGOs( YFS and Green Nest).
Taught in a couple of schools on weekends.
Organized chiguru as a part of YFS. Chiguru is an regional inter school competition.
Spearheaded the CSR activities in my office.
As a part of these activities:
Implemented Akura( free school management system) in the schools I teach in.
Ensured the completion of a community hall project in a flood prone area.

Other than these:
I am into freelance modelling .
I have acted in a couple of short films.
I also represent my company in football and badminton.

I would like to know:
1. the schools that I have a good chance to get into.
2. which schools suit social entrepreneurship
3. the areas where I can improve? So that I can present them a better profile.

P.S. I am looking at something in the Top 20 25 schools.

Hi Nishanth,

Congrats on the excellent GMAT! In terms of social entrepreneurship, you could try for Yale or Haas as still somewhat of a challenge; or you would probably have good chances at Ross & Fuqua. Remember that so much of the admissions decision is still influenced by the essays-- the 750 gives you an edge as do some of your experiences, but with weak essays it'd still be very tough to get admitted. The essays are where you show who you are, what makes you UNIQUE, why you need the MBA, and what you'll do with it. Keep us posted on more q's! Good luck!

Hi,

Other profile evaluators were asking me why I want to come to the US if I want to set up a school in Asia, and how do I think an MBA can help in running a school.

My idea is:

I plan to offer consultancy to people who aspire to set up schools. I would like to help people with procedures, best practices, contacts, and other similar stuff. So once I set up a school, the transition process from just a school to a consultancy, and running both the firms in parallel is where I need an MBA.

Do you think this idea is convincing enough? I will make it sound much better of course, but I want to know whether the essay analysts would think if this is a good enough reason for an MBA in usa. Please suggest any changes or other ideas that might make my essays more convincing.

Thank You,
Nishanth.K

Hi Nishanth,

Yes those are important questions to answer within your essays. I think you have something there, but as you mentioned you'll probably want to strengthen the feasibility of your plan to best prepare for the essays and interviews. Off the top of my head, I would wonder....

Where are you planning to start your initial school?
How will you fund it?
Have you done much research/planning on the feasibility of this so far?
Have you researched government regulations in the chosen country?
What timeframe would you aim to branch into the consulting company?
Do you know of other companies that do this? Have you talked to anyone to get ideas in this area?
What is involved in setting up this company? What region/s will it be based in/consult in? What challenges do you forsee? How will it be funded?

I'm not asking you to answer all of these to me here per se, but please know that these are the types of things others may wonder as they read your goals. So I would prepare answers to them and ensure you've done your research and thought it all through; then you can touch on some of it in the essays and be prepared to touch on potentially all of that in an interview just in case.

Hope that helps! Overall I think it is an ambitious, interesting and less-common goal.... but you want to make sure it seems do-able as well.
