GMAT 640 - request profile evaluation - should I retake?

by karthik.jalamangala Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:57 am

Hello,

I completed my GMAT on Friday, Sept 23 and got a score of 640 (Q 48, V 31).

First off, thanks to Ron Purewal and the rest of the MGMAT team for the terrific prep material.

This was my 2nd attempt at GMAT. In March 2011, I had scored 620 (Q 43, V 31).

Note that the verbal score remained unchanged!

Here's a brief about my profile
(1) 33 years old
(2) 11 years experience in chip design field
(3) have been a team lead for teams based in US, India and elsewhere
(4) Have supported customers globally
(5) have coached about 50 participants in leadership programs that make a social difference
(6) have helped start a charitable organization in India
(7) have an MS from USC (GPA 3.53)

Schools that I am interested in (all part time) - Haas, UCLA Anderson, USC and UC Santa Clara (since its local). I am thinking of applying in round 2.

QUESTIONS:

(1) What are my chances in these schools?
(2) Should I retake the GMAT?

Thanks!
Karthik

Hi Karthik,

Thanks for writing in. While part-time programs tend to be a little less stringent on GMAT requirements than their full-time counterparts, I have concerns that a 640 GMAT may not be enough at Haas, UCLA and borderline USC. If you can get that up to about a 670-680 I would rate you competitive. You are likely already competitive for Santa Clara.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
