I still didn't get how to choose between "and" and "but".
If I replace "but" in your example with "and" then also the sentence looks good to me.

Roy's work is becoming more dangerous, and his pay rate has been raised significantly.
Meaning: Roy's work
is getting dangerous day by day but on the other side his pay
has been raising at high proportions.
A new doubt arised in my mind do the verbs need to be in same tense in sentence connected by ,and.
I mean part 1 in above sentence is in present continuous tense and part 2 is in present perfect. Do we need like perfect or continuous tenses on both the sides?
