Fourth Edition Strategy Guide EIV pg. 35 #8

2x+y=-3 and x^2=y+3

How do you know you should set these two problems and not use substitution? Is it because of the square?

Actually, either way will work just fine. I suggest you try both substitution as well as expressing each equation as y= and setting them equal to each other.
