I think I know which question you're referring to ;) and yes, it's fine. Sure, it sounds clunky to me too, but it passes the grammar tests for modifiers and comparisons. Be sure to understand what's wrong with all the other answer choices.

The word 'twice' is an adverb, and 'double' is an adjective. No need to know this for GMAT though.
