Extension Classes

by brian1981us Sat Sep 05, 2009 10:49 pm

I am considering taking an extension class to address a low GPA. I heard the general rule of thumb regarding extension classes is to take a quant class such as Algebra, Statistics and Calculus. Would Microeconomics or Macroeconomics be considered a quant class? Does it matter that I took Micro and Macro in undergrad? I hold a BS in Finance. Finally the community college where I want to take the class considers Micro & Macro a 100 level class and the university where I received my undergrad degree considers them 200 level classes does that make a difference to the ad-coms?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, thanks for your inquiry.

I would try to take the most rigorous class you can, given that you're using it to try to prove your ability to flourish in a demanding academic setting. Economics classes are usually considered quantitative, but if you did well in those in undergrad you should probably choose a different class. In terms of the 100/200 level, that's a fairly specific question that you should address (anonymously) to the admissions committee. My guess is that they would prefer you to take a higher level class, but please speak with them directly.

Good luck.
