Every day Guy takes the same N sandwiches to work. (Man CAT)

by vak3e Sun Jun 01, 2014 10:43 am

Every day Guy takes the same N sandwiches to work. Guy takes to work how many more sandwiches that contain only ginger jam than sandwiches that contain only peanut butter ?

(1) Every day Guy takes to work 5 more sandwiches that do not contain peanut butter than sandwiches that do not contain ginger jam.

(2) Every sandwich Guy takes to work contains peanut butter or ginger jam or both.

Dear all, I'm not sure exactly what cat this question was on, I'm sorry for the confusion. It's definitely a MGMAT question though.

The correct answer is C, but I'm having serious difficult figuring this one out. To me, it seems like A should be the answer. Here's why:

If we draw a diagram such as
Ginger Not Ginger
Peanut a
Not Peanut b c x+5
x
No matter what values we plug in for X, if we complete the letters a, b, c, we always get a difference of 5 for a and b. Is this wrong because we don't know if there's any Peanut sandwiches or Ginger sandwiches that we haven't accounted for? I think that's the reason, but I"m still confused. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
