Thank you for your inquiry.

It seems that you have a very strong profile, but I would need to learn more. Can you tell me a bit more about your work experience? How many times have you been promoted? How many people do you manage? What was your GPA/class rank?

Sincerely,

more info

by Guest Sun Aug 31, 2008 11:08 am

My undergrad GPA was 7.5/10 and grad GPA was 3.6/4.0. I have been responsible for coordinating across teams of upto 20 engineers, although I do not have any direct reports. I work for a flagship group within my current company. I have been with the company less than 5 years and am in the running for a promotion, which is quite a rare occurence within my group.

Jeremy,
Could you provide some feedback based on my latest updates? I also realised I made a mistake while providing my GMAT score...its actually 760.

Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Clearly, you have an impressive profile. You are in your firm’s flagship group are about to earn an unusual promotion, have a strong GMAT score, great grades and extensive extras. It will no doubt be frustrating to hear that I think that HBS will be a reach for you - they are not discriminatory against older candidates but at 31, you have to have something special to offer. You are strong through and through, but probably will not stand out somewhat singularly among your thousands of countrymen. I think that Wharton and MIT will be more realistic, but certainly not safe for you. Again, much like I mentioned in my last post, you will need to show profound management skills, not just a tech talent.

Sincerely,
Jeremy Shinewald

Thanks for your feedback. Do you think that strong/unique essays can help offset the disadvantage due to age/background?

importance of essays

Hi Jeremy,

I think you lost my last question amidst the morass of information, so restating it:

Do you think that strong/unique essays can help offset my age/background?

Thanks!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Strong essays merely means representing a strong story quite well. If you can really make your stories standout, then that should help you, of course. However, I would have to understand your specific stories in order to advise as to whether they can standout. Still, theoretically, yes your story can help you overcome obstacles - absolutely in fact.
