Equilateral triangle and Square have the same area...

by changg03 Thu Apr 08, 2010 4:25 pm

From GMAT Prep test II:

Equilateral Triangle with side T has the same area as square with side S. What is the ratio of T to S?

OA is 2 : 3^(1/4)

Need help working through the algebra.

The formula for area of Equilateral triangle is (sqrt 3)/4 times the square of the side and the area of the square is (side)^2

As per the question (sqrt 3)/4 * T^2= S^2

Thus T^2/S^2= 4/ sqrt 3

Taking the square root of both sides gives T/S= 2/3^(1/4)
