DS Problem

by Genevieve Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:34 pm

Hi All,

Can anyone please lend a hand to explain this?

If you have X=X^2(that is X sqaured)...how could the two possible values of X be X=1 or X=0?

Thanks so much!

x = x^2

x^2 - x = 0

x(x-1) = 0 left hand side will be equal to 0 if one of the factors x or x-1 is 0. In the other words either x =0 or x =1
