Double set matrix on DS

by Adam Wed Oct 01, 2008 4:27 pm

Hi,

I am going through one of the labs and they are talking about using a double set matrix to solve for DS. It completely makes sense, but I was curious to know how often this actually comes up on the GMAT. So far, I have yet to encounter this problem.

Thanks!

there are data sufficiency problems involving 2 overlapping sets, but such problems are admittedly rare. here's a sample.

if you get such problems, you may have to make separate double-set matrices for the 2 statements. you won't need a third matrix for the two statements together (if that's even necessary); if you have to use the 2 statements together, you can just start with one of the matrices that you made for the individual statements and add in the information corresponding to the other statement.
