Great question. I think the answer depends upon the individual student and what s/he plans to do with the degree. Certainly, I would do a very thorough cost-benefit analysis before I undertook any degree (or anything!) for which I'd have to pay $100k (and you could argue that the cost is even more - you also lose your salary for those two years when you're not working).
