Dilemma

by kanwar.hunny Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:33 pm

Hi...About 2 months ago i scheduled my GMAT exam. I was in full swing and was studying hard until one day when i browsed at least web sites of top 20 B schools and realized that i am not able to pay tuition fees for even one of them which forced me to cancel the appointment. Still, i am very stressed out because of my bent for MBA and the willingness to do it from one of the best B schools in the world. Kindly tell whether i should take the appointment again or wait till i earn enough to support my expenses. As of now, i can't even arrange the bucks( not even from bank loans as they demand collateral which i don't have any)
My Profile:-

10+2..............................82%
GPA(10 pt scale)...............(8.65)
Work Experience.......(2.5 years with HPCL,fortune 500 company)
Work Profile................Operations Officer

Hi Kanwar,

Thanks for writing in. I can't advise you on the cost-benefits of whether to pursue the MBA in your case because that is a very personal decision and everyone's situation is different. If you feel you are prepared for the GMAT now, go ahead and take it, the scores are valid for five years. That way if you are happy with your GMAT and decide to apply in a few years, you will have one less thing to worry about.

Good luck!

Thanks for replying Sir. But my problem is not about return on investment but the investment itself. I know for sure that after MBA from a good B school, sooner or later i am going to reach that break even. What i don't know is even after cracking GMAT, whether i will be able to afford going to Ivy league B schools or not whose expenses are sky high. Kindly put some light on the chances for scholarship for international students in B schools.

Hi again,

It still varies by school and the individual's situation. You will likely want to call the Financial Aid offices of the schools you are targeting and see what scholarships are available, and which international students are eligible for. I do believe some scholarships have restrictions on on eligibility.

Good luck!
