what are the other answer choices?

is this a gmatprep problem? if so, you NEED to post the problem in its entirety, including answer choices.

in brief:
because x is negative, |x| is equal to -x (which is positive).

therefore, -x|x| = (-x)(-x), or x^2.

so the square root of this expression is |x|, which happens to be -x (because x is negative).

you could solve this problem fairly easily by plugging in numbers, if the answer choices are anything like what i think they're like.
