Different strategy needed for 740+?

by H.Rahman512 Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:41 pm

Hi all,

I've been reading some of the testing strategy articles posted on MGMAT, and the one thing that I've taken away is that even people who get top scores get some questions wrong and have to "pass up/guess" on some questions that look hard in order to have time for the rest.

My question is that if I want to get a good score on the GMAT (ie: 740+), is that strategy still viable, or should I be aiming to get every question that I come across right?

Thanks!
Hammad

This strategy absolutely applies at every level of the test. :) I just spoke with a student last week who outright guessed on 4 quant questions and she still scored a 51 (the top quant score).

Read this:

That's what the test is really testing. They're actively trying to test whether you can set appropriate priorities, manage your resources - in short, do all of the things that a good business person does. (And the best strategy is NOT to set zero priorities and blow all your time / mental energy on something ridiculous. :)
