Dentist Profile advice

by ddsmba Sun Oct 03, 2010 5:34 pm

Hello
I have been a dentist for a while but i don't enjoy the clinical part so i want to get an MBA in a top school but I want to remain in the dental/health-care field and maybe manage dental clinics.
Any advice or feedback on this post MBA goal? Is it an impressive/strong career goal that i could write in my essays?
thank you very much.

Hi ddsmba,

Your background is certainly unique, and that should help differentiate your application. You can, and should, definitely write about this goal in your essays, as it answers the obvious question of "Why does a dentist want to get an MBA?"

You will want to make it clear how an MBA will help you reach these goals, and you should also be careful with how you frame the reason you want to no longer practice. This part should focus more on why you want to manage clinics, rather than why you don't enjoy the clinical aspect.

Good luck,
Daniel Richards
