Degree of Freedom

by MdAbuAsad Mon Dec 08, 2014 5:05 am

Ron,
I want to have a broad understanding of "Degree of Freedom" in Data sufficiency. Actually, how does the "Degree of Freedom" work?
Thanks

hi,

in what context did you see this?

that term refers to an extremely general idea—basically, "you can change this thing in X number of different ways".

for instance, when it comes to the dimensions of a rectangle, you have 2 "degrees of freedom" because you can choose the length and the width independently. for a square, on the other hand, you have only 1 "degree of freedom", because everything can be determined completely from any single dimension of the square.

• if the original context is on this forum, please post in the thread that already exists.

• if not, please try to provide a summary of how it was used, for what problem, etc.
in this case, if the problem is from GMAT Prep or MGMAT, you'll want to post a new thread in the corresponding folder.

thanks.

I've NO specific context regarding the matter. It'll be better for me if you explain a Data Sufficiency problem regarding the Triangle problem indicating Degree of Freedom method.
Thanks.

well, there's really no such thing as "[b]the 'degree of freedom' method". it's possible to invoke that idea in many different contexts, but it's just that--an idea. it's not a "method".

also, you seem to be referring to a specific problem. if you have a specific problem in mind ...
... please search the forum first, to see whether there is already an existing thread on that problem;
... if you find an existing thread, please post on it (if your question is not already answered there);
... if you don't, then go ahead and post the problem in a new thread.

thanks.
