Decimals in a ratio

Hi --

Just wondering -- is is possible to have decimals within a ratio

-- If X * Y = 14 ..could the following be a ratio ?

X = 1.4
Y = 10
...then x : y is 1.4 : 10 (i understand this can be cleaned up to say 14 : 100 or 7 : 50) but just wondering if its okay to start with x = 1.4 in this case


I know the following can be ratio's AS WELL but was curious about my case above .
x = 7 | y = 2, hence ratio is x : y is 7 : 2
x = 14| y = 1, hence ratio is x : y : 14 : 1

Yes, we can. Usually we avoid mixing decimals with ratios, but the ratio 1:2 is the same as the ratio 0.5:1.

Note, however, that GMAT ratio problems often involve scenarios such as flowers, people, or cars. Clearly you can't have non-integer quantities of these things, so that the ratios and multipliers must be integers.
