Deadline for acceptance approaching fast!!

by Guest Fri May 02, 2008 1:43 pm

Hi,

I applied to only two MBA programs approx three weeks apart, due mostly to the difference in essays and my allotted time for writing them between my work schedule. Good news is I was accepted to the first school, bad news is that i havent heard back from the other school. To throw some dates around, my completed admission package and interview with the second school was 4/30 and the deadline for admission for the first school is May 7th. My preferred choice would be the second school.

My options are:

A) Call the second school to "check in" on the progress but I dont want to seem overbearing nor do I want to say, hey am I accepted because I have this other school waiting in the wings

B) Call the first school and try to get some kind of extension, which i dont even think that is possible

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

Well, it never hurts to ask, but chances are the decision won't get expedited -- not because they aren't willing, but because chances are they can't simply because as the notification dates near, the admissions office becomes very busy and any unusual or special requests can screw up the workflow they already have in place.

Chances of getting an extension at the first school is less unlikely than getting the decision from the second school expedited.

In any case, what most applicants in your situation will do is to simply pay the deposit for the first school and be prepared to eat it (not get your money back) if you do get into the second school. So the potential "cost" of going to the second school is the deposit you lose on the first school.
