by thanghnvn Mon Nov 05, 2012 4:57 am

the following is from gmatprep.
Normally, we prethink an assumption before going to answer choices for strengthening question. in the following, pls, describe your prethinking process and how do you eliminate choice B and D. I feel this question hard.

what I want to know is the relation between the assumption we prethink and the strengthener in the correct answer. The hardness of this question lies in this relation. pls help

pls, help. Thank you.

Over the last 5 years, the number of new cell phones in India have far outpaced the number of new landlines. This does not mean however that people don’t need landlines and that land lines are being or will be replaced by Cell phones. The average # of minutes spent per landline have constantly increased over the last 5 years.
Which of the following if true will support the outcome of the study described above?
A.Of those who bought cell phones in the past 5 years, only a small fraction of those currently do no own a landline.
B.Landlines do not cost higher on a per minute basis than cell phones do.
C.While most of the country is covered by a cell phone network, land line networks have not reached the nook and corners of the country.
D.In spite of the technical advantages on the cell phone, the voice quality on cell phones is not as excellent as that on the landlines
E.People who own a smartphone, a special type of cell phone also use it to check email and to send short messages

hi,
this problem is almost certainly not from the official gmat prep software.

if this problem is, in fact, from the official software, please post a screenshot as proof. you can either embed the screenshot directly into a post or post it on an image hosting site (such as postimage.org).
if no such screenshot is posted within a few days, we'll have to delete the thread.

please do not cite sources incorrectly. thank you.

Hi, not to pile on here but... there are two subject-verb agreement errors in the argument and at least two incorrect idioms in the answers. As written, this cannot be a GMATPrep problem.

If you really did see this yourself in GMATPrep, please attach a screen shot, as Ron requested (and, if so, please correct your text in your original post - as there would have to be transcription errors). If you found this somewhere online and someone else said this was a GMATPrep problem, now you know not to trust what you see on random websites - use the direct sources yourself. Alternatively, if you knew this wasn't GMATPrep but just really wanted to know what we thought (I'm not saying you did this, but it happens), please follow the rules in future. Thanks!
