Hello Friend,

Important note : Never approach Strengthen / Weaken question with defined logic...Formal logic does not work in such question (e.g X=100 & y=50 so X is more than Y, such logic only works for inference questions).

Now let's see this question :

Simplified argument will look like this :
Conclusion : In next ten years, The percentage of people who regularly read a newspaper will probably be no lower than it is today.

Premise used to support this conclusion : (1) most of People over thirty read newspaper regularly. (2) Domoricans in their twenties constitute a large proportion of the population.

Think for 30 sec before moving to answer choice...what link is missing between now and next ten years...increase in newspaper reader's base will come if more and more people start reading newspaper....Is it something that most of people who when cross thirty start reading newspaper ?...Yes that's the point this argument has assumed.

Now look for answer choice that should match our this line of thinking...

a) As per argument this can not be true (remember never attack facts presented in arguments, we can only question claims not fact).

b) Newspaper increasing ?...what this means...does this means production has increased ?...is this increase due to avid readers?..Not sure.

c) Perfect choice...see how it matches out thought process...it shows its a trend that people in twenties are not avid reader but when they cross thirty...start reading...make sense !!

d) so what ?...i will defined regular reader as someone who reads newspaper more than once in a day...does that affect anything ?...No Way..frequency of reading is not discussed here..

e) this is a kind of weakener...this shows that people put off reading newspaper with time...so if this is true then how come we can expect increase in next ten years.

Hope it helps !!

Do you mean" C. The proportion of Domoricans in their twenties who regularly read a newspaper has always been low." = people do not read when they are twenities but begin to read newspaper regularly when they turn Thirty? I do not see a clear link between these two, maybe because I am not understanding the context correctly.

aaaaaa, so confused.

bhupi, thanks for your help! Yes, to speak for bhupi, that is exactly what is being said. Right now, a low percent of people in their 20s read papers but half the people above 30 read papers. As the population ages over the next ten years, wouldn't some of the over 30 people die? We lose readers that way. Unless the people who are currently in their 20s start reading to pick up the slack, the overall percentage of the population who read is going to decrease.

Now, how can we guarantee that we can maintain the same reader percentage? IF those people currently in their 20s start reading ten years from now, when they are in their 30s. Envision a timeline of people, from babies to very old people. Push all those people ten years to the left. Some older readers will die and will have to be replaced. As long as the 20s people START reading in 10 years, and become typical of the current over 30 people in regards to reading, we won't lower our readership percentage.

C) helps support this idea. People in their 20s historically don't read, but once they reach 30+ they start reading. If this has happened for a long time it shows that our current readers in their 30s are reading after NOT reading in their 20s, and it is reasonable to assume that the current 20s population will undergo this same conversion.

Hi experts,
I have a question about the conclusion of this argument.

conclusion:"the percentage of Domoricans who regularly read a newspaper will probably be no lower than it is today."

Can someone tell me the difference between "no lower than" & "not lower than"?

& difference between "no more/less than" & "not more/less than".

It's hard for me, a non-native speaker, to understand the intended meaning of these phrases. Hope someone can give me some analogies or examples.

Hi Ron,

It is given in arguement that 50%+ people read newspaper( a fact stated) above 30 years. So why do we need to make a assumption that people will start reading newspaper when they cross 30 years mark. Should'nt it be self-assumed that to maintain the 50% + condition(fact stated) some people will ofcource start reading newspaper.
I know it will be tough to understand my question. :)

Thanks,
