Confused about my current gmat preparation.

by NirmalA64 Wed Jul 23, 2014 8:37 am

I have been preparing for gmat from last 2 months. I was quite satisfied with my preparation with good score in gmat prep tests.

prep 1 - 710 (Q50 V35)
prep2 - 720 (Q50 V38)
prep 3- 730 (Q50 V39)

today I appeared for gmat prep 4 but got 650 (Q49, V31). i am completely devastated. I don't know what went wrong, as today I was more calm and mentally prepared compared to previous mocks.

After analysing all my mocks I found that my performance in SC is not up to the mark. Every time i am making more mistakes in SC compared to CR and RC. In today's mock there were 7 incorrect SC compared to 3 CR and 4 RC.

My target score is 700+. Although I still believe that i can cross 700, but due to today's performance I am in dilemma.

Should i delay my exam, if not than how to go about it. How to improve SC, I have completed MGMAT SC 3 times, but i am not able to apply all the rules during mocks. While solving OG13 and VR2 my accuracy in SC was around 80%.

I need some valuable suggestion.

Regards
Nirmal.

When is your real test?

There are multiple reasons why someone's score might drop, so take a look at this article to help you figure out what might have happened during the last Verbal section:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... t-wrong-2/

Come back and tell me anything that you think applies (or may apply) to your case.

One of the issues may be timing - but GMATPrep unfortunately doesn't tell you your per-question timing. Did you time yourself, by any chance? If so, look over the timing data to see whether you might have had problems compared to the other tests. If not, we'll just have to forego that data point.

Note that mental fatigue doesn't feel like physical fatigue. Most people are unaware when they're feeling mental fatigue (because the brain is too tired to pick up on it!). These kinds of symptoms can be indicative of mental fatigue:

The number incorrect may be indicated of a problem with SC, but it also may not indicate what you think. You could have had a harder mix of SC questions, and so that would naturally explain why more of those were wrong. Again, GMATPrep doesn't tell us how the questions are rated, so we can't tell for sure - but don't neglect RC and CR. :)

The key at this point is to study / analyze the specific questions that are giving you trouble - you don't need to do the SC Strategy Guide again. (You may need to go back to individual chapters or sections at certain points, but you don't need to re-do the whole Guide.)

This article talks about how to analyze problems to figure out what you need to do in order to get better:

Try out the process described there and let me know how it goes.
