"comma + with" modifier vs "comma+ ing" modifiers

by RijulN343 Mon Jun 18, 2018 3:17 pm

Hi,

I am having a tough time understanding the comma + with modifier vs comma + ing modifier.
In some question comma+with is used in similar fashion as comma+ing but when we have both in one sentence,
I cannot understand which one is better.

Please give examples.

Me too! That's a split that's hard to deal with and I'm not able to provide a simple rule for you. The good thing is that we can usually avoid it: there's almost always some other issue with the wrong answer choices.

Actually, I took a survey of the Official Guide 2018 and found that the construction 'comma with' is used in the following correct answer choices: 677, 713, 751, 765 and the following incorrect answer choices: 700, 721, 769, 781, 790. Of course, that doesn't mean that the construction is wrong in all these cases. I suggest you take a look at these problems.
