Clarification on modifiers.

by maren.j13 Wed Jun 16, 2010 12:14 am

I wanted to post this question in General Verbal Questions, but found that to be made Read Only. Sorry to post this question in this section, but this is a generalization of many questions tested in GMAT(Prep). I hope clarity on this will help many of us.

1)
X did Y that resulted in Z.
X did Y, that resulted in Z.
a). Are the above two sentences differ in meaning ?
b). What does "that" modifies in each of the above sentences ?

2)
X did Y resulting in Z.
X did Y, resulting in Z.
a). Are the above two sentences differ in meaning ?
b). I think in the second sentence, "resulting" modifies the action of "X doing Y". What does "resulting" modifies in the first one.

3)
X did Y who resulted in Z.
X did Y, who resulted in Z.
a). Are the above two sentences differ in meaning ?
b). What does "who" modifies in each of the above sentences ?

hi --

if this problem is a generalization of GMATPREP problems, as you've stated, then please cite the particular problems from which you are generalizing.
most GMATPREP problems already have one or more dedicated threads on this forum, so it's likely that these issues have already been discussed here.

so please cite the actual problems, and then we should be able to provide you with links.
thanks.
