Chances of getting in to ucla anderson part-time program

by charleshkim31 Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:11 pm

Here is my profile snapshot:

Starting with the bad:
-low GPA 3.1, although increased second two years, 3.3 in major (Econ)
-low GMAT 610 (took it only once)

Goods....
-Strong work experience
-4 years in IT Consulting, 6+ years in finance (commercial lending, promoted 3x)
-Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
-Some extracurricular activity - CFA Mentorship Program

Do I have a chance or should I save my money?

Hello,

I would encourage you to retake the GMAT if you feel that you can increase your score by 30 or more points. You can’t change your GPA, but you can improve your GMAT score, so I recommend trying to put together the best application possible. Give that your best shot before you give up. For the part time program and with six years of experience, the admissions committee is more likely to focus on your work experience and professional trajectory, so all is not lost. My advice is to try to improve the GMAT and focus on showcasing your more recent achievements and you should have a chance!

Sincerely,

Akiba Smith-Francis
