Thank you for your inquiry.
When the schools read your recommendations, they are looking for standout accomplishment regardless of the sector. In other words, beyond specific skills, they are looking for character traits. Further, the admissions committee recognizes that these are unprecedented times and that people will be out of work and changing positions/careers. You can explain your decisions, because you are committed to this new path, via your personal statement and/or your optional essay, but, in short, I would not worry that your situation will discourage your target schools and that your recommendations will not be relevant.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Shinewald

Guest Wrote:Hi,
Due to the financial turmoil I have decided to switch careers from equity research to corporate management. As I am preparing to submit my apps, I read the copies of my recommendation letters and see that it talks about my leadership, technical skills around investment research?
How does one address my situation in an essay?
If I talk about my understanding of the corporate finance in relation to management, an point to some experiences, would this be ok?
FYI, I don't feel comfortable asking my rec's to rewrite my letters again.
& Yes, I have seriously considered that this switch and I have decided that this is what I want to do.
