I am a computer science engineer with 82.21% in Btech.

I have work experience in IT field and I have also worked part time as a manger in my family firm, a manufacturing business . I am really interested in MBA in finance but all of my friends have told me to apply only for the general management as there is maximum chances of rejection if I apply to finance program. Is it necessary for me to have work experience in finance before applying for it ? Is General management the only area in which I can do an MBA? What about consultancy and International business programs?
My gmat score is
Gmat 610 ( 80% quants), AWA 5.0 , Toefl 105.
I have always excelled in math subjects throughout my undergraduate studies. Please help me!!

It certainly is not necessary for you to have experience in finance in order for you to pursue a career in this area. Further, top business schools generally do not identify themselves as offering MBAs in Finance or General Management, but simply offer the MBA, as it is.

You really need to understand WHY you want to enter the field of finance and connect it with your capabilities and your goals. Still, that written, if you are vying for a position at a top-school, your 610 GMAT and IT background will make it difficult.
