Application question on timing

by adam.haughton Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:20 pm

I recently took the GMAT and have begun the application process. Being this close to the round 1 deadlines, I have a quick a question regarding the timing of applications.

I am planning to apply to some schools during round 1 and overlap some applications into round 2. Would you have to decide to accept admittance to a school from round 1 before hearing back from the schools you applied to in round 2? For example, if I were to apply to Texas by the Nov. 1st round 1 deadline, I would hear back from them by mid-December. If I were to then apply to UNC in November (round 2), I would not hear back from UNC until February 7th. Would I have a deadline from Texas to accept the spot prior to UNC's February 7th feedback?

I could avoid the problems by applying to all schools in round 2, but I would like to get my top school applications into round 1.

Thanks for you help,

Adam

Hi Adam,

This shouldn't be an issue. Most schools will give you until the spring to commit (ie send your deposit check), unless you are applying in an "early decision" situation, like what Columbia offers.

Good luck!
