Any issues with MGMAT CAT#6??

by Test taker08 Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:35 pm

I just took the CAT #6 exam and got 780. :D Q51 and V45.

I got 14 out of 15 DS questions from 700-800 level but only 1 out of 22 PS questions from 700-800.I got 13 of the PS questions from 600-700 level and 8 from 500-600 level.

Coming to the verbal part, the distribution among the CR questions was OK but only one 1 RC from 700-800 level.

Among SCs,12 were from 600-700 level and only 3 from 700-800 level.

Overall I made 11 errors in Verbal and 10 errors in Quant.

Even though I did not attempt attempt many 700-800 questions, why did I get 780? Can the instructors pls explain?

Thanks.

Seems you are really shocked!! What's about the other test scores? Have you counted the points that you have increased in this test? Number of wrong questions has nothing with algorithm. You have got too many questions from 600-700 series just because you might have done almost all the questions from 700-800 pool.
After all that's a good sign. :)

Rest of the scores were all below 700.

same with my scores...i was getting 680-710 in all exams when suddenly in 5th exam I got 760!! i followed a few threads here and realised that the problem lies in the fact that MGMAT has relatively small bin of TOUGH questions which gets exhausted if you consistently do well in 3-5 exams. So if a well prepared guy takes MGMAT, he might squeeze out all 700-800 level questions in 2-3 exams. I KNOW HOW FRUSTATING IT CAN BE...you pay 39$ and still don't get 6 virgin sets of questions!! i think MANHATTAN guys should tell this to the prospective buyers.

May be that's why people say CAT 4 is closest to the real thing. By that time at least you have few more questions from various pool.

They do specify that they have a pool of 1200 questions for those 6 tests.Maybe they need to increase the size of that pool.

Hi all,

Let me get in on this thread and clarify some of the issues discussed. First off, it is true that we do have fewer 700 - 800 level questions in our CAT pool relative to other questions. Hence, if a given test taker scores consistently in this level for a given section, the number of questions in this range should last them through the 4th CAT or so. We are currently working on expanding the CAT pool, especially for higher level questions, because we realize this is a problem for some of our students. In the meantime, be assured in the fact that you will most likely do very well on a section if you have answered out all of the difficult questions for that section before your 6th CAT exam.
