as far as this test is concerned, no.

Hi Ron,

I have small doubt in the below sentence.

In ancient Thailand, much of the local artisans’ creative energy was expended on the creation of Buddha images and on construction and decoration of the temples in which they were enshrined

How can "they" refer to "Buddha images"? Isn't "Buddha images" inside a preposition phrase "the creation of Buddha images"?

Thanks in Advance!

• the correct answer is not wrong.

• why would this be a problem, anyway?

with pronouns, the ONLY things you need to think about are...
...is the intended referent a NOUN?
...does it MATCH the pronoun? (singular/plural)
keep simple things simple!

Hi Ron,

I found another GMAT SC problem here : https://www.manhattanprep.com/gmat/foru ... 15247.html

In a previous design, the weight of the discus used in track competition is concentrated in a metal center, but now it is lined with lead around the perimeter, thereby improving stability in flight and resulting in longer throws.
Where "it" cannot refer to discus here?

I'm so confused because of this now :(

Or A and B may both be modifiers.
Liz is smart as well as kind.
.

Ron, I did not get how 'smart' and 'kind' are modifier in this sentence?

Also, what's the basic difference between 'creating' and 'the creating' in D and E?
Thank you...

^^ they are both adjectives.

the usage of "a"/"an"/"the" is not tested on this exam. there's nothing to consider there beyond parallelism.

Hi Ron,

I think you have missed my query?

"it" isn't problematic there. that choice is incorrect for other reasons.

Hi - for answer choice D , other than "ambiguity in meaning", is there any other reason to eliminate ?

sometimes when you have a 1.20 only and the non underlined portion is THIS long ...i am looking for grammatical error to eliminate instead of trying to find the meaning

any grammatical errors that will allow for elimination ?

any recommendation on how to detect ambiguity given the time limit

thank you

I don't think your strategy is a great one: reading for meaning is essential in SC problems. Meaning and grammar go together. In any case, 1:20 per question is a guideline - I'm sure you'll do some questions quicker than this, and so you'll have a few spare seconds. If timing is a real issue in the verbal section, perhaps skipping (i.e. just blind guessing) some RC questions could be a strategy.

However, you can improve your speed at reading for meaning by paying attention to verbs: be sure to check out who is doing what. And the word "and" is a marker for parallelism. You need to check for that in answer D. This is both a meaning and grammar issue.
