Advice needed , please

by wind Wed Feb 13, 2013 9:20 pm

I took the gmat just today , the 13th and was shocked by a 540 despite I aimed at a minimum of 650 - 700 and studied for 3 months using the Manhattan collection and covering most of Ron's videos. Intending to retake after 4-6 weeks , I am in urgent need of your valued advice . What shall I do ? I have to mention that I identify and categorize 80-90% of the questions I see , and for most of them (saying 70-80 %) I can stratgize the required approach.

Thanks

In order to advise you, I need a LOT more information. :)

To start, does your official score represent a drop compared to practice tests? How much? Please give the Q and V breakdown, not just the overall score.

If it did represent a drop of >80 points, read this:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ent-wrong/

What were your practice test scores? Were those tests taken under 100% official conditions, including essay and IR? If not, how did you deviate from official conditions?

Next, I'd like to get some more detailed data on your strengths and weaknesses. Use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us the results of your analysis and what you think you should do based on that analysis. We'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)

Finally, I just want to mention - you mentioned that you want to re-take in 4-6 weeks, but we don't even know what the issues are yet or what you might need to do to get into the scoring range that you want. Don't start by setting an artificial deadline / timeframe for yourself. Let's see what we're dealing with first. :)
