Advanced Quant,Q 128 - Is x>0?

by SharaT711 Mon Oct 27, 2014 4:39 pm

Question is:

Is x > 0?

(1) |2x - 12| < 10
(2) x^2 - 10x >= -21

-- Question: This problem deals with inequalities, but the solution does not spell out the positive/negative scenarios. The solution printed in the book uses "rubber band" theory, but this is sort of mental clutter to me. Could you explain why the solution doesn't explore both positive and negative options (especially with clue 1)?
Thanks

hi,

if your question concerns the solution printed in the book, please reproduce whatever portion of the solution is at issue here. (we don't always have access to the books while moderating the forum; besides, if you don't cite the text you're talking about, this thread will have little value for future readers.)

thanks.
