Pg. 96 4-1
What's the Value of ab?
1) a=b+1
2) a^2= b+1

1) Insufficient: If a=1 and b=2, then ab=2. If a=2 and b=3, then ab=6.
2) Insufficient: If a=1 and b=2 then ab=2. If a=2 and b=5, then ab=10.

My question- how can b equal a number that is higher than a?
a=b+1 --> 1=2+1 this is not a true equation. Statement 1
a^2=b+1 --> 1=2+1 , this is not true again. Statement 2

Hi Galina,
Good catch! This is a typo. Statement 1 switched a and b; it's meant to say if a=2 and b=1, . . . . and if a=3 and b=2 . . .

Let's get some new numbers going for Statement 2 because the ones that are there make no sense. If a=2 then b=3. ab=6. If a=3 then b=8 and ab=24. Insufficient.
