Advanced GMAT quant guide Pg 66 Q13

by jp.jprasanna Thu May 17, 2012 3:53 am

Hi - IN Page 66 Question 13 from advanced GMAT quant guide.

I got the area of the bigger square to be 7*7 = 49
Area of the inscribed square to be 5 * 5 = 25 because the each grey triangle the hypotenuse is the side of the square, also each angle of the bigger square is 90 degrees hence the side of the inscribed square by Pythagorean theorem or the triplet gives 3-4-5, 5 being the side of the inner square hence the area =5*5 = 25. Ratio = 25/49!

What have i done wrong?

Ans given is 24/49 - some 1 pls help!

Cheers
