Advanced GMAT Quant Chapter 0 p.20 Try It #0-2 and Try-It #3

Why is it we find 336 possible positions in an angle when with a 5-4-3 triangle wouldn't this mean there will be 7 positions vertically and 7 positions horizontally giving (7 x 7) x 8

Why is the line from A which cuts in between B and C = x/2

Where did the x/2 come from?
